Athame or Sword Consecration
Lay the sword or athame over the
pentacle, preferably together with and touching another already
consecrated weapon.
Asperge the weapon with salted water. Cense the weapon in the
smoke of incense. Return the weapon to the pentacle. If you have
an already consecrated athame, pick it up and press down upon the
new weapon; if not, press down with your projective hand. Say:
'I conjure thee, Oh
(Athame or Sword),
that thou servest me for a tool and weapon in all magick.
I conjure thee anew by the Goddess (or your goddess's name)
and by the God (or your god's name).
I conjure thee, Oh (Athame or Sword),
that thou servest me for a protection in all adversities,
so aid me now!'
Asperge and cense. Present to the east and say:
'Elementals and Powers
of the East,
I hold here my (Athame or Sword).
As thought concieved it,
let the power of Air fill it
that it may be a worthy tool for me.
So mote it be!'
Asperge and cense. Present to the south and say:
'Elementals and Powers
of the South,
I hold here my (Athame or Sword).
As it was forged in fire,
let the power of Fire fill it
that it may be a worthy tool for me.
So mote it be!'
Asperge and cense. Present to the west and say:
'Elementals and Powers
of the West,
I hold here my (Athame or Sword).
As it was quenched in water at it's birth,
let the power of Water fill it
that it may be a worthy tool for me.
So mote it be!'
Asperge and cense. Present to the north and say:
'Elementals and Powers
of the North,
I hold here my (Athame or Sword).
As it was wrought from earth,
let the power of Earth fill it
that it may be a worthy tool for me.
So mote it be!'
Asperge and cense. Return the athame or sword to the pentacle. Say:
'I conjure thee, Oh
(Athame or Sword) of Steel
by the Great Gods and Gentle Goddesses,
by the virtue of the heavens,
of the stars and of the spirits who preside over them,
that thou may recieve such virtue
that I may obtain the end that I desire
in all things wherein I shall use thee,
by the power of (your goddess's name) and (your god's name)!'
Recast the circle without speaking, to use the athame or sword. Keep it nearby you as best you are able, even sleeping with it under your pillow, for at least one moon.
To Return a Tool to the Mundane
Place the old tool on the pentacle. Press down upon it with the new tool in your receptive hand. Say:
'Oh Athame of Steel (or
whatever tool it is),
I release thee to the world of the mundane.
Thou hast been a fine weapon (or tool)
and served me well.
Rest now, and let thy virtue and power pass to thy successor.'
Visualize the energy passing from the old tool to the new. Hold the new tool aloft and say:
'Let this (Athame,
Sword, or whatever) shine forth as a star in the night!
As I will, so mote it be!'
The ritual is done!
